
Mpower Mental Health Helpline Data Reveals Evolving Mental Health Landscape in India: Anxiety and Relationship Concerns Dominate
Delhi, January 20, 2025:Relationship issuesemerged as top concerns, reflectinguniqueurbanchallenges, on the backdrop of the evolving mental health landscape in India, reveals a comprehensive analysis, done by Mpower, a unit of the Aditya Birla Education Trust and a leading mental wellness provider.
This comprehensive analysis, released on the occasion of its 9th anniversary is based on over 100,000 calls, provides critical insights into the mental health concerns affecting individuals across India.
The following highlights includes key trends and insights of the survey, for instance, the demographics of callers reveal that 60% are male and 40% are female, with young adults aged 18 to 40 accounting for 74% of the total calls. The primary concerns among callers include relationship issues, which make up 33% of all calls, followed by anxiety at 23%, depression at 20%, stress at 16%, and psychiatric disorders at 8%.
Mumbai accounts for 42% of total calls, leading all cities.Concerns are dominated by 34% relationship problems, 23% anxiety, and 21% depression. Meanwhile, gender parity is evident, with a 47% male and 53% female caller ratio.A majority 56% of callers are aged 26-40, reflecting workplace and family pressures.
In the meantime, relationship concerns top the list in Delhiat 38%, followed by 22% anxiety and 18% depression.Gender disparity persists, with 60% male callers. On the other hand, callers aged 26-40 comprise the largest group at 48%.
In parallel, Bengaluru shows a balanced gender ratio among callers, with 49% male and 51% female. Relationship problems (27%) are the most common concern, followed by 26% anxiety and 20% depression. The largest demographic group comprises individuals aged 26 to 40, accounting for 52% of the callers.
In line with these trends, Pune sees 32% relationship problems and 26% anxiety as the leading concerns among callers. The majority, 51%, belong to the 18 to 25 age group, reflecting academic and career-related pressures.
Similarly, Kolkata reports a higher-than-average incidence of relationship issues at 45%, followed by 24% anxiety and 17% depression. Young adults aged 18 to 25 make up 49% of the callers in the city.

While anxiety and relationship concerns are common, each city reflects unique stressors influenced by its social and cultural environment.
