- 10-year-old boy from Madhya Pradesh gets a new lease on life through his mother’s liver donation
Gurugram, 24th October,25: In a moving story of courage and compassion, a 40-year-old mother from Seoni district, Madhya Pradesh, donated a part of her liver to save her 10-year-old son’s life. The child, who was suffering from end-stage liver disease, underwent a successful liver transplant at Narayana Hospital, Gurugram, under the expert supervision of Dr. Sanjay Gojja, Director & Clinical Lead – Liver Transplant & HPB Surgery.
The young boy was brought to the hospital with advanced liver failure, as nearly 80% of his liver had stopped functioning. He showed symptoms including persistent jaundice, fatigue, and fluid accumulation in the abdomen. With medical management no longer effective, a liver transplant became the only curative treatment option.
After comprehensive evaluation and cross-matching, the child’s mother was found to be a compatible donor. The multidisciplinary team at Narayana Hospital meticulously planned and executed the complex procedure, ensuring utmost safety and precision for both donor and recipient.
The surgery was performed successfully, and both mother and son recovered well postoperatively. The transplant restored the child’s liver function and gave him a renewed chance at a healthy life.
